No matter how dedicated a musician or singer may be, sometimes medical circumstances make it necessary to adjust tour schedules or concert dates. That seems to be the case with The Mavericks. They were slated to be entertaining travelers on a Sandy Beaches Cruise departing from Fort Lauderdale in January of next year. Unfortunately, that plan had to be scrapped because of the band's frontman Paul Malo's anticipated cancer treatments, per American Songwriter.

Raul Malo's Medical Status Was Clarified by the Band on Social Media
Per the outlet, Malo, 59, was operated on for liver cancer late last year. He experienced unspecified complications after that. "Sadly, the band announced in a July 30 social media post that Malo's cancer treatment schedule has made that impossible."
The band's Instagram post about Malo's situation stated that "Next January, RM will undergo hernia surgery to repair complications from a previous operation. The recovery time following this procedure will require us to take the first couple months of 2026 off for him to rest & recuperate, and hopefully be the final hurdle in his cancer treatment.
The post added, "This decision was not made lightly, and we apologize for any disappointment or inconvenience this may cause. Your continue support means the world to us, and we are deeply grateful for your understanding during this time. Thank you for your patience and kindness. We hope to sail with you all again soon. --The Mavericks
