27-year-old country music star Spencer Hatcher just cancelled some of his upcoming shows - but it's probably not why you'd think. Over the weekend, Hatcher's family suffered a home invasion, leaving his mother dead and his father severely injured. It was on Instagram that the "Cold Beer and Common Sense" singer chose to update his fans.

"It is with a heavy heart and overwhelming sadness that - due to a monumental loss in our family - I must cancel my upcoming shows," the singer wrote. "I hope to make these dates up to my fans in the future. I appreciate everyone that has lent their support to me and my loved ones. We ask that everyone please respect our family's privacy at this time."
Spencer Hathcher first gained notoriety as a country singer when a video of him on TikTok singing "Folsom Prison Blues" went viral. After gaining over ten thousand new followers in one night, he started posting more consistently and eventually garnered more than 850,000 followers across all social media platforms. Currently, he's signed to Stone Country Records and is celebrating the release of his first EP.
The singer had upcoming shows this summer planned at the VOA Country Music Fest in Ohio and the Rockingham County Fair in Virginia. Hatcher was out playing his latest single, "When She Calls Me Cowboy," as well as other songs like "On the Inside" and "The Way She Lies." For now, it's unclear when he plans to be back on the road, as he's currently taking time to reflect and grieve.
For Now, Police Are Investigating What Happened That Night
On August 3rd, an intruder broke into the singer's parents' home in Virginia and killed his mother, Holly Hatcher, who was 62. His father, Michael Hatcher, was also left with serious injuries. The Rockingham County Sheriff's Office also released a statement with more details.
According to the statement, the offender, who goes by the name of Kevin Moses Walker, had purchased a sleeping bag and a knife before invading the couple's home. The day before, police found his vehicle abandoned and a nearby store at Endless Caverns broken into. It wasn't until Saturday night that the police received a call from Michael Hatcher, when the 41-year-old male was invading his home.
After his wife was stabbed to death, Michael managed to shoot Walker dead with a handgun from his vehicle. No charges are to be filed in the case since the invader was killed, but police are continuing to investigate what happened.
Fans were quick to show support for Spencer, who's probably still wrapping his head around the whole incident. We hope he and his family can find closure, and that he's taking the time he needs to grieve and reflect.
