Rapper Chides Mother for Bringing Toddler To Show Without Ear Protection at Recent Mexico City Concert

"It’s your responsibility," the singer said to the audience member during a recent show in Mexico City over the weekend.

Becoming a parent can make you protective, not only of your own child, but of others around you. Columbian singer and rapper Maluma became a father last year, and he wasn't about to let what he saw in the audience at his show in Mexico City over the weekend go by without saying something about it.

A viral video shows Maluma stopping his show after noticing a child in the crowd without ear protection. He then told the child's mother why wearing ear muffs is important.

"That Baby Doesn't Want To Be Here"

Maluma spoke to the mother of the young audience member in Spanish.

"With all due respect... how old are they? A year old? Less? A year. Do you think it's a good idea to bring a one-year-old baby to a concert where the decibels are this fucking high? Where is the sound this loud? That baby doesn't even know what it's doing here. Next time, protect their ears or something."

"For real. It's heavy. It's your responsibility," he added. "You're waving them around like they're a toy. That baby doesn't want to be there, for real. I'm telling you with all love and respect, now that I'm a father... would never bring them to a concert. For the next time, be a bit more aware."

Maluma Is Right About Ear Protection

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, being exposed to anything above 85 decibels, which is equivalent to the volume of a hair dryer, can lead to permanent hearing damage, even in adults.

Imagine what prolonged loud noises could do to the hearing of a young child. A toddler's ears are still developing. Spending a few hours at a rock concert, which can exceed 120 decibels, can increase one's susceptibility to hearing loss. It could even lead to a delay in their speech and language development.

Invest In Ear Protection

Most earplugs aren't designed for young kids. They can also pose a choking hazard to toddlers. That's what makes ear muffs a safer choice.

If you're planning to take your young ones to a show in the near future, start by gradually introducing them to ear muffs so they can get used to them and ensure they fit properly. Also, don't be afraid to step away from the show and give yourself and your child a break from all the noise.

All of this may seem silly, but it sure beats a lecture from the headliner.
