"This story wasn't quite finished yet," Wilson says on social media. "Whirlwind (Deluxe) is available now. I wrote these last five songs when the dust was starting to settle a little bit. Now I'm starting to feel it pick back up with the kick off of my Whirlwind World Tour North America tour dates. Y'all check it out and let me know which one is your favorite. Can't wait to see you at a show here real soon."
Included on Whirlwind (Deluxe) is "Somewhere Over Laredo." The song is currently in the Top 20. Wilson penned the song with Trannie Anderson, Dallas Wilson and Andy Albert.
"Honestly, I am proud of the song, and I felt like it was special the moment we finished it," Wilson tells People. "I felt it in my spirit that the songwriter was going to take people to a nostalgic place, and I'm so glad that my gut was right because it seems like people are latching onto it and connecting to it. It's crazy to see the reaction."
Lainey Wilson Gets Creative With The "Somewhere Over Laredo" Video
Wilson got creative with the video for "Somewhere Over Laredo." The song is a nod to Judy Garland's "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" from The Wizard of Oz. So it seemed only fitting that Wilson do a video that also honored the creative film.
"I had not had the opportunity to make a video that I felt like deserved that kind of trippiness," Wilson says."When you think about The Wizard of Oz, and you think about the 'Yellow Brick Road,' of course. You think of 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow,' and this [song] is an interpolation of that. It's a way for us to tip our hat to that and acknowledge how timeless of a song that is. It was important for me to kind of draw the parallel between the songs."
Wilson's bulldog appears in the video, which also shows the singer floating through the air.
"I had the time of my life doing it," Wilson says. "I was doing all kinds of things, pretending to be falling through the air, the sky, and all of these crazy things that I had never done before."
