Carly Pearce Reveals How Perfectionism Led to Lifelong Battle with OCD

Carly Pearce is opening up about her struggles with her own mental health. In a new interview, Pearce reveals she has been battling OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder), since she was just a little girl. In hindsight, Pearce says it can likely be traced back to trying to be a perfectionist as a little girl, following in the footsteps of her supportive and loving mother.

"I had a mom, and she's still like this to this day. She's the best, but she's a perfectionist," Pearce says on Bunnie Xo's Dumb Blonde podcast (via People). As Pearce elaborates, she shares what she calls a "core memory" of having to have all of her Barbie shoes in the exact same spot, every time, even as a young girl.

"So I learned," Pearce remarks. "[My mother] never left the house without her makeup on. She was always just so put together, that I think that perfectionism just became - not intent. She didn't mean to do that to me.

"It wasn't like she was like, 'You have to be this way,'" she continues. "But I watched and led by example. Yeah. So then I wanted to have everything perfect."

How Carly Pearce Overcomes Her OCD

It's only been recently that Peace has been able to come to terms with her lifelong battle with OCD.

"I would have told you three years ago, my anxiety started during my divorce," Pearce says, referring to her brief marriage to Michael Ray, which ended when the world was shut down in 2020.

"But I've had crippling OCD since I was a child," she adds. "So like checking my backpack over and over and over, checking my alarm over and over and over."

Rather than Pearce's OCD starting during the pandemic, the 35-year-old says her time at home became the push she needed to get help for her struggle with OCD. Fortunately, Pearce no has coping skills to deal with her OCD tendencies.

"I think it just really came to a head of me wanting to do something about it during [2020]," she says.

Pearce is also enjoying love again. She recently went public with her romance with CEO and entrepreneur Jordan Karcher.
