Cole Swindell can write a hit song. In addition to writing many of his own hits, including "You Should Be Here," "Never Say Never," "Forever to Me" and more, Swindell has also written songs for artists like Luke Bryan and Scotty McCreery, among others.

But just because Swindell can write a hit song, doesn't mean he needs, or even wants, to write all of his own songs.
"Some of my heroes didn't write all their own songs," Swindell says. "But they knew how to pick them, and I think there's an art to that. I think if you're singing songs that you wish you would have written or you're singing songs that tell your story better than you can ... songwriters, that's what they do. That's how they make money."
Swindell has enough to do, including adjusting to being a father, without feeling like he always needs to write every song he releases.
"For me to feel like I have to write every single song is just crazy with all the other things that I have going on," he says. "I'm also thankful to have the best songwriters in the world, in my opinion, right here in Nashville."
Cole Swindell Becomes A Father For The First Time
Swindell and his wife Courtney welcomed their first child, daughter Rainey Gail, on August 7. Swindell, who heads out on his Happy Hour Sad Tour next month, says being parents, especially with his tour schedule, will likely always be a work in progress.
"I think we'll learn as we go," Swindell says (via Country Now). "And if something were to happen, hopefully the fans, they understand I've got to be there for that. But that's a good problem to have. We're going to get to do shows and finish up the year with new music, and [a] new baby and just putting a new song out at some point. So things are looking good."
Swindell's latest album, Spanish Moss, was released in June. Swindell wrote nine of the 21 songs on the record. His current single, "We Can Always Move On," is one of the 12 that he did not write for the record.
