Thomas Rhett Shares How His Kids Are His Toughest Critics When It Comes to Music

Thomas Rhett shares that his kids are actually the ones in charge when it comes to the music-making. And now, he's got one more on the way!

Recently, country singer Thomas Rhett shared the real secret behind how he's making new music. Although he's probably hearing from all sorts of people what music he should be making, the "Die A Happy Man" singer revealed who his harshest critics are. According to him, it's actually his kids.

Thomas Rhett shares four daughters with his wife, Lauren Akins, whom he first met during his childhood. Although the two dated in sixth grade and briefly in high school, they broke up both times. However, they reconnected in 2011 and got married the next year. Now, they share daughters Willa Gray, Ada James, Lennon Love, and Lillie Carolina.

In a recent interview, Rhett shared that he pays attention to what his kids like about his songs the most. "It's this funny balance of how much am I trying to impress my kids compared to how much am I trying to make sure that my fans actually like my music," he laughed. "It's been a fun record-making process to thread that needle of like, man, my kids do like this, but I also think that my fans are really going to love this song for this album."

"Willa Gray, my oldest, is now starting to understand, okay, this is a really well-written song, but my other three are like, does it bop or does it not? That is the only standard. Can I dance to it, or am I asking you to skip it?" he shared.

New Tour, New Baby, New Album?

So far, it's been a pretty busy year for Rhett both personally and professionally. The singer recently shared that he and his wife are having a fifth child in August via Instagram. He chose to announce this in the best way he knows how, by singing his own song, of course. In a video with Lauren, he played a little snippet of "Life Changes," while she showed off new ultrasound pictures.

"Now Lauren's showing, we got one on the way. That's five under ten, hey, what can I say?" The singer shared the news by changing the lyrics to his hit song.

Rhett is also on tour for his "Better In Boots Tour," in support of his 2024 album, About A Woman. The tour features openers Tucker Wetmore, The Castellows, and Dasha, depending on the location.

We don't know how much time Rhett is gonna have to work on new music, especially now that he's gonna be a father of five. However, he did share of his recent work, "It's been the most fun I've had making music over the last couple years and can't wait to start diving into the next one." So who knows, we might be getting a new Rhett baby and a new Rhett album all in one!
