Kelly Clarkson Makes First Public Comments Since Ex-Husband’s Death: “Thank You, Always”

Singer and talk show host Kelly Clarkson posted on social media for the first time in nearly a month to mark an important day in her life.

When we last heard from Kelly Clarkson, she announced that she was taking a break from the public eye.

That was on August 6. She announced that she was postponing the remainder of her Las Vegas residency to focus on her family.

She shared, "Unfortunately, I need to postpone the remainder of the August Studio Session dates in Las Vegas.

"While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children's father has been ill, and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them."

She then apologized to fans: "I am sincerely sorry to everyone who bought tickets to the shows, and I so appreciate your grace, kindness and understanding."

Her child's father is Brandon Blackstock, whom she married in 2013 and divorced in 2022, citing "irreconcilable differences. " He died the next day, Aug. 7, after three years of battling melanoma skin cancer.

What Did Kelly Clarkson Say in This New Post?

In her first social media message in nearly a month, Clarkson chose not to discuss rescheduling her Vegas dates or the new season of The Kelly Clarkson Show, set to return on Sep. 29.

Instead, she used this post as an opportunity for reflection and gratitude, looking back on a transformative day in her life and expressing thanks to those who supported her.

She shared a picture from the finale of the first season of American Idol. In it, she stood covered in red, white, and blue confetti, surrounded by her fellow contestants. Her win as the top vote-getter that season launched her successful musical career.

"To everyone that took time 23 years ago to call in and vote for me, thank you," she wrote. "Winning American Idol changed my life, and I will be forever grateful for all of you that have supported me for so many years. It is a gift to find your purpose and passion, and to be able to make a living doing it is the cherry on top. Thank you, always."

What's Next for Clarkson?

In addition to the return of her daytime talk show, Clarkson will also be part of a special Battle of Champions edition of The Voice, scheduled to air this coming spring.
