Reba McEntire Shared That Miranda Lambert Once Confided That She Didn't Want An Award, It Was Another Singer's Turn

The music industry is fiercely competitive. Yet I always have the sense that people in country music are a close-knit community of artists who truly care about each other. There is humanity and graciousness among them. In that vein, Reba McEntire revealed that Miranda Lambert reportedly told her that she, Miranda, did not want a certain award. She had gotten it before. Lambert felt was someone else's turn to shine now. That was not completely astonishing. The "Kerosene" singer is a real pro, widely admired not just for her talent, but for her decency and generosity.

In an interview with Esquire, McEntire, 70, admitted that she is competitive herself. Lambert, 41, a Longview, Texas, native, seems like exactly the opposite. As McEntire said, "I'm very competitive. I get a number-one record, I want another number-one record. I won an award, I want another one. I'll never forget Miranda Lambert coming up to me when she was nominated for Female Vocalist of the Year after she'd already won it, and I said, 'Good luck, Miranda.' She said, 'Oh, I already won, it's time for somebody else.' What person lets that come out of their mouth? I was shocked. I thought everybody was just like me."

Lambert Showed Her Humility

Per American Songwriter, Lambert gave a memorable acceptance speech for the People's Choice Country Awards' Country Icon Award. It really showed her modesty and self-effacing nature. "Y'all thank you so much. It's so weird for me to stand up here and hold an Icon award. I mean, to me an icon is like who I grew up listening to my daddy play like Jerry Jeff Walker, Merle Haggard, Guy Clark, John Prine, those are my icons.

She went on, "So, the fact that I get this award tonight is just blowing my mind. It's a lot of years, beers, tears, and Tito's if I'm being honest and I feel like I've been able to make so many great memories in my life and in my career because of fans. Because y'all allow me to keep creating all these years later. Some days I feel like I've done it 200 years and some days it feels like I'm just getting started."

Her List of Awards is Staggering

Lambert has landed prestigious honors from the ACM, the CMA, CMT, and the Grammys. And there is probably even more to come.
