Kenny Chesney Finally Sets the Record Straight Over Grace Potter

Rumors have swirled since Kenny Chesney and Grace Potter teamed up for "You And Tequilla" almost 25 years ago.

It's been 24 years since "You And Tequilla" debuted on the airwaves. However, many still believe that Kenny Chesney and Grace Potter were hooking up at the time of recording that song. In fact, the notion that the two were an item, at least for a little while, became so widespread that Chesney addressed it in his new book, "Heart Life Music."

Humorously, Chesney admitted that even his own mother thought he and Potter were an item.

"Even Mom thought we were sleeping together," He noted.

At its height, "You And Tequila" reached number three on the Billboard Country Airplay chart. It also went platinum and received two Grammy nominations. However, for all of the song's success, Chesney and Potter's relationship remained the talking point of the song, and it would appear, still does to this day.

In a different passage from his book, Chesney revealed what drew him to working with Potter in the first place. He noted how her singing voice was the biggest draw.

"When I first heard Grace's voice, it stopped me. It had this ache — this realness — that made the song breathe differently," He recalled. "'You & Tequila' needed her. It wasn't about a duet for the sake of it; it was about finding someone who understood the song's hurt."

Kenny Chesney Was Recently Inducted Into the Country Music Hall of Fame This Year

Chesney's first record deal came in 1992, via Capricorn Records. Since then, he's gone from strength to strength, cementing himself as a modern Country Music great. As a result of his consistency and exceptional catalogue of work, he's being inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.

"The truth is, I never really let myself sit in accomplishment very much. I've always been very creative, very driven," Chesney said as part of his induction speech. "But tonight, walking into that rotunda and taking the group shot with a lot of my heroes and a lot of my friends — it was the first time that I have ever felt accomplished in my life."

Despite his recent induction, Chesney is likely to continue making new music and travelling to perform in front of his fans. However, he will likely be hoping that any rumors of a previous relationship with Potter have now been put to bed, once and for all.
