Emerging Singer Preston Cooper Got Some Wisdom From a Country Music Legend That He Cherishes

The music business is fiercely competitive. That is a given. But there is also a strong sense of community among country artists. They try to help each other out when they can. Rising country music singer Preston Cooper found that out when he crossed paths with a legend of the genre - Vince Gill. Per Country Now, Cooper had an opportunity to write with Gill. He was thrilled, understandably.

Per the outlet, Cooper shared, "Yeah, writing with Vince Gill, you know, pullin' up to his house and he comes out, and he's like, 'Are you Preston?' 'Yes I am.' And inviting me in, such a nice guy. Very nice. And I just kinda let him take the lead on the writing process because it's just so cool watching him do his thing and put his guitar playing and voice on a song,"

Gill Imparted Key Advice to Cooper

The seasoned pro gave some important advice to the up-and-comer. Cooper said that Gill said to him, "And he just told me, 'If you're gonna do it, just have fun doing it. Always have fun doing what you're doing.' And that's something I'm definitely gonna remember from that, for sure."

Gill knows the business as well as anyone possibly could. According to the outlet, "The Oklahoma native has released 20 albums, sold more than 30 million records, charted 45 singles, earned a plethora of various awards and the list goes on."

He will add another honor to his collection on November 19. Gill will be awarded the prestigious 2025 Willie Nelson Lifetime Achievement Award at the CMA Awards. He will also get "a special tribute performance" that should be a real treat for everyone.

Cooper Is Already Excelling

Last month, he debuted at the Grand Ole Opry. What could be more exciting than that as a career milestone? And Cooper was on the Damn Country Music Tour with Riley Green which was also pretty amazing.

Cooper gushed, "Hearing from Riley Green that I'd be playing the Opry - while standing on stage in front of a sold-out crowd at Red Rocks - was absolutely mind-blowing. I still can't believe it actually happened. Playing the Grand Ole Opry has been a dream of mine for as long as I can remember. Words can't express how thankful I am for this opportunity."

His freshman LP, Toledo Talkin' has dropped. It surely will be the first of many to come.
