Blake Shelton and Keith Urban are currently starring on CBS's The Road, a new reality TV series. The show follows young artists, who compete for the opening spot on Keith Urban's tour. Blake Shelton is one of the show's creators and executive producers. Although Shelton and Urban have known each other awhile, it seems like the competition series is bringing them closer together. In a new video on Instagram, the two stars revisited some past looks from when they were first starting out. Let's just say the conversation didn't go without a good roast or two.

"Do you care to explain this for me?" Blake Shelton asks Urban about a photo of a younger him with much longer blonde locks. In his defense, Urban hadn't been in Nashville for very long yet. "Well," Urban shares, "that's what I looked like when I first got here, and I couldn't for the life of me figure out why we couldn't get signed." Urban, in turn, takes a shot at one of Blake's stylistic choices.
He gestures to a picture of a younger Blake from the 90s, who boasts much longer, curlier hair as well. "I don't know when this was, Blake, but you got this unabomber thing going on, sort of a Charles Manson influence," Keith says, to which Blake responds with a hearty laugh. "That was my Terri Clark phase," the "God's Country" singer admits.
The country stars then look at pictures of themselves from 2001. Honestly, we find it hard to see any difference between Keith's look now. "Maybe time to change it up a little bit, I mean, you've had the same hair since 2001, man," Blake quips. "I could go this route, maybe," Keith points back at the picture of Shelton. "Maybe perm it?"
We don't know if a perm is the right choice, but it definitely worked for Shelton back in the day.
Keith Urban Talks The Reality of Touring and The Road
Even though Shelton and Urban have known each other since the 90s, Keith admitted a few years back that he didn't really get to know Blake until he made an appearance on The Voice. "I like Blake a lot," he told the Boot. "I like him even more after spending a whole day with him and getting to know him." The singer admitted, "I realized I didn't really know him that well. I've never really spent any time with him, so I really enjoyed it."
After his time on The Voice, it seems like Urban was inspired to continue giving back to younger talent with The Road. The new show focuses on what being a touring artist is really like, and, according to Urban, it's definitely not always as glamorous as it seems.
"When you wake up on a tour bus at 3:30 in the morning and you're sick as a dog, you're in the middle of nowhere and you've got to play you're fifth show later that night," he told American Songwriter, "and you say to yourself, 'Why am I doing this?' The only answer can be: Because this is what I am born to do."
Urban described the new TV show as "real world," which is apparently "unlike any singing show you've seen." Fans of Urban can watch episodes of The Road on Sundays on CBS at 8 pm Central time.
