The Kid From ‘The Blind Side’ Movie Was Just Handed the Keys to a Division 1 Sports Program

SJ Tuohy, who was played as a young boy in 'The Blind Side,' has accepted his first role as an athletic director

If you've ever watched 'The Blind Side', then you're well aware of who SJ Tuohy is. The move depicts SJ as a young boy who loves football and has developed a strong relationship with Michael Oher, the protagonist. Well, SJ is all grown up now, no, not the character, the actual, real-life SJ.

SJ understands the collegiate game. Before his role with Oral Roberts, SJ worked for Liberty as the assistant athletics director and as the director of football operations. He's also a former collegiate athlete, having played four years of basketball for Loyola University Maryland. He also played a season of college football.

Clearly, SJ has slowly worked his way up the ranks. His latest move is his first athletic director role.

Michael Oher Believes 'The Blind Side' Got Things Wrong

You may remember 'The Blind Side' as being a wholesome family movie. However, Michael Oher has previously spoken out about how things were depicted in the movie is not how they actually went down.

In 2004, the Tuohys were granted a conservatorship over Oher. That meant they had control over his finances. However, in 2023, Shelby County Probate Court Judge Kathleen Gomes terminated the agreement. Oher had previously agreed to the conservatorship when he was 18, before he went to play college football for Ole Miss.

Things eventually reached a boiling point when Oher was frustrated with reportedly not getting his fair share of the rights to 'The Blind Side' movie.

"It was alleged that the family used the conservatorship to make a deal that allowed them royalties on the film that grossed over $300 million," Sean Leahy of Yahoo Sports wrote. "Oher claims the Tuohys made millions from the film. Oher claims he did not see any of that money."

SJ Tuohy Understands Why Michael Oher Was Upset

During a 2023 interview with Barstool Sports, SJ Tuohy emphasized with Oher's situation.

"I get it," SJ Tuohy said. "I completely understand. And it stinks that it'll play on a very public stage. But I think there was 16 years of, or how long it's been, but of people that took positive things from the movie, there'll be some now 16 years of things that people think negative of it. That part sucks."

Despite the strain between the Tuohys and Oher, SJ has continued to forge his own path in the athletic world. His new job is the latest step on that ladder. And, at 32 years old, he still has plenty of time and room to continue growing. It will be interesting to see where his career takes him in the coming years.
