In November of 2022, the blues group signed with the independent record label, Qualified Records. The label spoke of Mark's death. "On behalf of Qualified Records and the Big Shoes Band, we are saddened to share that the preeminent musician Mark T. Jordan passed away unexpectedly on December 1, 2025."
"The entire team at Qualified Records was honored to work closely with Mark on the band's last two No. 1 USA charting albums, Fresh Tracks, and the most recent, King Size. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered as a first-rate musician, human, lyricist, producer, and songwriter by so many. Mark's substantial legacy lives on through his wide variety of contributions to our musical culture."
The band's albums, Fresh Tracks and King Size, charted successfully on the Roots Music Report (RMR) charts. This earned them two No. 1 spots and respect in the Roots and Blues communities.
Mark T. Jordan Described the Band as Having "Big Shoes" To Fill
Big Shoes Band was first formed in 2015. Additionally, Mark T. Jordan is also credited with working with Van Morrison and touring with artists like Bonnie Raitt. He shared the inspiration behind Big Shoes' name, which stems from wanting to replicate 70s music. The group's music is often described as "progressive" blues, and much of it is inspired by the group Little Feat. Little Feat's sound is often described as a blend of California rock and New Orleans street music.
"Your assumption that the name 'Big Shoes' may be related to the Little Feat project is spot on, too," Mark once explained. "When we settled on the Feats, we knew it would be a challenge... it was gonna take some mighty 'Big Shoes' to play that music with commitment and credibility, and there you have it."
Jordan's last confirmed appearance with the group was at Fox and Locke in July of this year. The group was also scheduled to play at the Bourbon Street Blues and Boogie Bar in Nashville this Tuesday. It remains unclear if they still plan to be present.
