Chief David Toomey of the Lucia-Riverbend Fire Department spoke to reporters upon arrival. Nearly half of Hamlin's home had been destroyed by the fire.

"Well this house was about 40-45% involved when we got here," Toomey said. "Of course where we are located there are no hydrants, so all the water had to be trucked in and there were times we would run out of water and we had to wait for more water to get here. We had to call for more, additional tankers throughout the county."

The names of the two people taken to the hospital have not been confirmed. However, both people were found outside of the home upon the arrival of the fire crew, and were immediately taken in for medical care.

Denny Hamlin's Dad Is Battling a Serious Illness

Toward the end of the year, Denny Hamlin revealed that his father is battling a serious illness. He said his father is not expected to live for another year. As such, Denny is using his father's deteriorating situation as fuel to win his first NASCAR Cup Series.

"Obviously, my dad has been a huge fan of mine," Hamlin said. "...Realistically, I know this is his last chance to get to see it if it does happen. They're the ones that made the sacrifices, ultimately. I'm the one who said, 'This is what I want to do,' and they just had to figure out what all were they willing to sacrifice to make that happen. This is the chance. If we're going to do it and he's going to see it, it's going to have to happen now."

Denny fell short of his goal this year.

But now, with a fire at his parents' home and his dad's health condition, winning is likely the furthest thing from his mind.
