Jane Fonda Shreds Barbra Streisand for Tribute to Robert Redford at the Oscars, Thinks She Should Have Done It

Celebrity feuds happen a lot. Sometimes they are not really serious dust-ups. Other times, they are truly vitriolic. Now there is a new one erupting in Hollywood that involves two legendary ladies - Jane Fonda, 88, and Barbra Streisand, 83. It seems that Fonda is mighty miffed because Streisand paid tribute onstage to the late Robert Redford at the Academy Awards on Sunday, March 15. Fonda thinks that she should have done it. As she reportedly said to Entertainment Tonight, "'I want to know how come Streisand was up there doing that for Redford. She only made one movie with him, I made four!'

The four flicks Fonda and Redford were in together were "Tall Story, The Chase, Barefoot In The Park and The Electric Horseman," per The Daily Mail. What Fonda mat be overlooking, however, is the fact that the sole movie Streisand made with Redford, The Way We Were, in 1973, is a beloved, time-honored classic.

Fonda Was Very Fond of Redford

The iconic actress, who has a pair of Oscars on her mantel for Klute and Coming Home, admits that she adored and respected Robert Redford. '"I was always in love with him. [He was] the most gorgeous human being and had such great values. He did a lot for movies - he lifted up independent movies."

Streisand and Redford Sizzled in 'The Way We Were'

In The Way We Were, Streisand and Redford played college students who meet in the 1930s. They are complete opposites. Her character, Katie Morosky, is a passionate political activist. She has deeply-held views and principles that she wears on her sleeve.

On the other hand, Redford's character, Hubbell Gardiner, is a campus god - handsome, athletic, smart, and popular. He is the kind of person to whom everything comes almost too easily. Katie and Hubbell meet again by chance after college in World War II-era New York City. They then begin an unlikely relationship. The trajectory of their romance ends in unforgettable heartbreak. To many fans, Barbra Streisand and Robert Redford still rank as one of the silver screen's most memorable couples.

Her Presentation Honoring the Late Actor Was Emotional

Streisand and Redford became lifelong friends after The Way We Were. She spoke of him with great warmth and affection in her speech. The Funny Girl actress said in part, "He was a brilliant, subtle actor, and we had a wonderful time playing off each other because we never quite knew what the other one was going to do in a scene."

She added, "He was thoughtful and bold. I called him a little intellectual cowboy who blazed his own trail. I miss him now more than ever."
