Florida Patient Finally Leaves Room After Refusing to Leave Hospital for 5 Months After Discharge

The woman had been staying in Tallahassee Memorial Hospital's room 373 for months, without leaving. The hospital filed a lawsuit.

When we reported on this back in March, we never thought we'd see an end to this. Things didn't look clear, and the patient seemed to be stuck in their ways. But, luckily for everyone involved, there's been a happy ending.

As reported by the New York Post, the Florida patient who stayed in their room months after discharge has finally left. The Tallahassee Memorial Hospital was originally going the legal route. But now things have cleared up, they've dropped their lawsuit.

The woman, who was staying in room 373, refused to leave the room at all. The hospital was originally considering all options, but, by March, they'd gotten sick of it. They filed a lawsuit and got in contact with the sheriff's office for assistance, if they needed it.

A hearing was scheduled for Monday, March 30, but this has now been cancelled. The hospital ended up filing a notice of voluntary dismissal with prejudice. This means she did end up leaving in the end.

The lawsuit was pretty harsh, but admittedly fair. It stated that she was hogging hospital resources by staying in the room. Obviously, one less bed means that people who needed it couldn't use it.

Why Was the Woman Staying in the Hospital in the First Place?

We aren't quite sure the full reason why she stayed so darn long. But, we do know that she was originally admitted to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital on October 6. She apparently needed acute medical care services.

Normally, you'd expect a hospital to kick someone out if they're not paying, right? But, if it's acute emergency care, Medicaid-funded hospitals are required to treat patients who really need it. Even if they don't have a proper payment method.

So the woman was admitted, and she stayed in room 373. And the days ticked by, and she continued to stay there... even past her welcome. The hospital continually tried to get her out of there. First they were friendly, trying to get her family members to transport her out of there. And then they tried the lawsuit route.

And that looked to have worked. At least she's out of there now.
