Per the product's web site, the new Nutella variety "is not peanut butter." The makers of the food item, Ferrero, describe it as "the distinctive creaminess of Nutella's cocoa hazelnut spread combined with the delicious taste of roasted peanuts." Don't worry, though, classic Nutella is not going away! It will still be available as usual.
In a statement, a Ferrero executive sounded ecstatic about newly-released Nutella Peanut. "Nutella Peanut delivers the same creamy experience fans know and love, now blended with the irresistible taste of roasted peanuts. Our fans have been asking for this for years. We heard them, and afternoon snack time will never be the same." That comment is from Noah Szporn, Senior Vice President of Spreads, Ferrero North America.
Nutella Has a Fascinating Backstory
Nutella was born out of the problematic scarcity of cocoa following World War II, per its web site. Ferrero, the manufacturer of Nutella, came up with an ingenious solution. They devised a paste from sugar, hazelnuts, and a mere dash of cocoa. Thus the earliest Nutella product was introduced.
Then came some refinements. Nutella was then available in a sliceable loaf that was perfect for bread. By 1961, the paste formulation was turned into a more readily spreadable item called SuperCrema. The year 1964 heralded the arrival of modern-day Nutella, the beloved blend of cocoa and hazelnut that we know and crave.
The Product Gained International Popularity
Its famous jar, instantly recognizable, was introduced in Germany in 1965. The next year, consumers in France gave the item a thumbs-up when Nutella appeared there. By 1978, it was in Australia. There is even a World Nutella Day that started in 2007.
Can't get enough of this luscious stuff? There's ice cream, snacks, and biscuits for people who love the spread's unique flavor that excites their taste buds.
