NFL Pro Bowler and Super Bowl Winner Dies at 75

Former NFL tight end Charle Young, a Super Bowl champion and four-time Pro Bowler, has died at the age of 75.

Former NFL tight end Charle Young, who had a successful 13-year football career, has died at the age of 75.

Young played for the Philadelphia Eagles, Los Angeles Rams, San Francisco 49ers, and Seattle Seahawks during the 1970s and 1980s.

He was also part of the 49ers team that won Super Bowl XVI in 1982.

No cause of death has been announced.

Super Bowl Winner Dies After Standout NFL Career

The Seahawks and 49ers announced Young's passing on Tuesday, May 12.

According to the Associated Press, San Francisco learned of Young's death through his wife.

Following a standout spell at USC, Young became the sixth overall pick in the 1973 NFL Draft.

He spent his first three seasons in Philadelphia between 1973 and 1975, earning Pro Bowl selections each year.

Young also received first-team All-Pro honors as a rookie before adding second-team All-Pro selections in both 1974 and 1975.

Between 1973 and 1985, Young appeared in 187 regular-season games with 142 starts.

He finished his career with 418 catches for 5,106 yards and 27 touchdowns while also appearing in 13 postseason games.

Young played in four Pro Bowls and reached two Super Bowls during his career.

He appeared in Super Bowl XIV with the Rams before winning Super Bowl XVI with San Francisco against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Young Stayed Active in Seattle After Retirement

In 2004, Young entered the College Football Hall of Fame.

Nicknamed "Tree" during his USC days, he earned unanimous All-American honors in 1972 while helping the Trojans win a national championship.

In 2016, he was also named to the Pac-12 All-Century Team.

His daughters, Candace, Cerenity, and Chanel, later competed on USC's track team.

After retiring in Seattle, Young remained active in the local community, according to the Seahawks.

The franchise described him as an "active" member of its Legends community who volunteered with several organizations and also worked as an NFL uniform inspector during Seahawks games for "several years."

Young later became a minister in Seattle, where he also operated a learning center for at-risk youth.
