'Survivor' Contestant Suffers Horrific Injury in Boating Accident

Stavros Floros, a contestant on Survivor Greece, has suffered a shock accident, leaving them with a partial leg amputation. As such, filming for the reality show has been halted for the time being. He reportedly suffered the injury while spearfishing off the Dominican Republic coast. The accident occurred during a break from filming the show.

"Authorities and production company AcunMedya said Floros was 'diving without a surface marker buoy in an area frequented by tourist vessels" when a boat "accidentally struck him,'" The Toronto Sun reported, citing local authorities. "Reports confirm Floros 'sustained severe injuries to his legs from the vessel's outboard engine propellers, including a partial amputation of the left leg and significant trauma to the right ankle.'"

Given the severity of Stavros' injuries, there will undoubtedly be uncertainty about his ability to return to the show. For now, production will remain paused. An investigation has been launched regarding the circumstances surrounding the accident.

Again, Stavros' injuries didn't occur during filming. However, his injury will add to the string of scary accidents that have followed the Survivor, both in the US and Greece, in recent years. Jake Latimer was bitten by a venomous water snake while in shallow Fijian waters. He was a contestant on season 49 of the US version,

Production Company Releases Statement Regarding Stavros Floros' Injury

Following Stavros' injury, the production company AcunMedya released a statement.

"Following our initial announcement regarding the serious accident involving a Survivor contestant in the Dominican Republic, and out of a sense of responsibility toward the public and, above all, toward the contestant himself, we consider it necessary to clarify the exact circumstances under which the incident occurred," the statement began.

The statement then continued to detail the incident while also confirming that an investigation has already been launched.

"According to the information available so far, the accident appears to have happened when a tourist boat injured the contestant while he was spearfishing outside the competitive process of the reality show...From the very first moment, there was an immediate response to provide assistance and safely transport the injured contestant. The competent port authorities are investigating the causes of the incident in order to fully determine the circumstances."

Finally, the statement provided an update on Stavros. It noted that he "remains hospitalized in serious but stable condition and is out of danger."

There's currently no further information regarding the situation or when Survivor Greece will get back to filming.
