Music legend Barry Manilow has revealed the toll that cancer took on his voice. As reported by E!News, the singer explained that things aren't looking good for his musical talent following a "nightmare" surgery.
He had to have one of his lung lobes removed earlier this year to remove the cancer. And, following the treatment, things weren't the same as usual. He explained, "My voice, I don't know whether it's coming back."
His first sign? During his first sound check following his remission, he explained, "I looked at my band and they were all looking at the floor. That was my first hint something was not right."
In an emotional explanation, he added that he didn't know whether his voice was coming back. He said, "I just couldn't believe that it's over."
As something I'd expect most legendary singers do, Manilow said that he used to take his voice "for granted". But now things aren't the same, he said, "Now I do, because it doesn't seem to be there the way it always was."
But he said that he doesn't want to stop, and he vows to do his farewell concert come rain or shine.

Barry Manilow Revealed He Was Shocked by His Cancer Diagnosis
In case you weren't aware, Barry Manilow was diagnosed with lung cancer back in December 2025. It caused him to have to cancel a slew of tours. He revealed that his diagnosis was so scary that he just couldn't pay any mind to it.
"They checked my lungs, and they found the dot, the spot, that thing you don't want to, you don't want to ever have. It was just too heavy for me."
But, luckily, he managed to fight the cancer off. And now he wants one big farewell. "I can't wait to get back. I'm in great shape, I'm ready to go. I just hope my voice is there. If I sound good, that would be just great."
He also revealed that he was really surprised by the amount of people who wished him well. "The thing that shocked me was all the people around the world being concerned about me. It was note after note after note about 'we're praying for you.'"
