Grand Texas will start construction on their water park in August, putting the theme park on track for the estimated summer 2018 opening.

The updated timeline was released mid-June. "Construction on Big Rivers — the water park planned at the Grand Texas Theme Park — will begin in August," Grand Texas CEO Monty Galland told Community Impact Newspaper.
The theme park shared proposed development plans on Facebook at the beginning of June. Commenters started to cry foul almost immediately.
It was touted as the next Astroworld. But so far, the park has been surrounded by controversy.
The park was announced in 2013, and construction has been delayed since. The water park's initial lender backed out and the oil and gas downturn scared lenders from making large investments in Houston. Construction delays on infrastructure projects also pushed the project back, Galland explained to Community Impact.

Currently, they have an RV park open. It's getting mixed reviews online, but most people agree that it's clean and the staff is friendly.
Houston area residents seemed excited about the new theme park when it was first announced. The recent construction announcement has been received with suspicion. With funding secured, the park could be open as early as spring of 2018.
