Louisiana Woman Responds to Rude Note About Her Inflatable Christmas Dragons

It's Christmas time so that means neighborhoods all over the country have pulled out all of their holiday decorations and decked out their front yards. Some people go traditional, with just Christmas lights, giant candy canes, or a full display of Santa and his reindeer. Louisiana resident, Diana Rowland, however, puts up inflatable Christmas dragons on her front lawn (she's a sci-fi writer, so it makes sense).

Her annual tradition since 2015 doesn't sit well with one of her neighbors, though. I'm not sure what's so insensitive about an inflatable dragon wearing a Santa hat, but apparently, this neighbor thinks that it gives off cult vibes -- according to the anonymous letter they sent.

"YOUR DRAGON DISPLAY IS ONLY MARGINALLY ACCEPTABLE AT HALLOWEEN. IT IS TOTALLY INAPPROPRIATE AT CHRISTMAS. IT MAKES YOUR NEIGHBORS WONDER IF YOU ARE INVOLVED IN A DEMONIC CULT. PLEASE CONSIDER REMOVING THE DRAGONS. MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND HELP YOU TO KNOW THE TRUE MEANING OF CHRISTMAS."

There are so many problems with this. How is a dragon "marginally acceptable at Halloween"? When I was a kid my neighbors had graveyards, giant spiders, creepy music blasting and dressed up like vampires. It was terrifying. Had I seen an innocent airblown inflatable dragon I would have been all about it. But what do I know?

If this neighbor has done anything it's blasting the Christmas dragon movement. After her tweets got thousands of responses, Rowland tells People, "The response has been almost entirely positive," she says. "I think everyone can relate to the idea of having a weird, judgemental neighbor. So they can relate to my standing up to them."

I say we all incorporate our own Christmas dragons. It's about time we change things up. Give them their own Christmas tree, maybe it lights up! Get your own Christmas dragon here (complete with his own cup of hot cocoa) and display him proudly in your yard!
