It's safe to say that Bill Anderson didn't have the best weekend.

The country music icon was slated to perform at the Grand Ole Opry on Aug. 16, alongside T. Graham Brown, Jordan Davis, Wyatt Ellis, Kylie Morgan, and others, per the venue's website.
Obviously, if things had gone as planned, you wouldn't be reading this. Unfortunately, the longest-serving member of the Grand Ole Opry (64 years!) was forced to cancel because of a "freak accident."
What Happened to Bill Anderson?
According to an entry in Anderson's online journal dated Aug. 18, he openly addressed any concerns from numerous friends and fans following the abrupt cancellation. He wrote the following:
"Hi Gang:
Many of you have been reaching out to me and members of my team since the announcement was made that I wouldn't be keeping my scheduled appearance on the Grand Ole Opry this past Saturday night.
I appreciate your concern, but I'm here to let you know I'm doing fine. It was a freak accident where I simply twisted or tore some ligaments or muscles or something in the back of my left leg trying to climb into bed, and I fell to the floor, unable to walk. I was in excruciating pain and had to cancel a songwriting appointment with T. Graham Brown on Friday, the Opry on Saturday, and an appearance at the State Fair for WSM on Sunday. If you know me, you know how much it bothers me to go back on any commitment I may have made.
Thanks to a bunch of ice packs and pain pills, I'm feeling much better today, and hopefully this will all be behind me shortly. Thanks for your thoughts and prayers, and most of all for caring.
Love to all....Bill"
What's Next for Anderson?
According to his website, Anderson currently has no tour dates scheduled. This means he has plenty of time to heal.
Even though "Whisperin' Bill" is at the point in his life when he has Country Music Hall of Fame exhibits dedicated to his career, the "Don't She Look Good" singer continues to astound audiences in his later years. Sounds like it won't be too long until he takes the stage again.
