For two decades, the "Time Marches On" singer has hosted the Mission:Possible Turkey Fry at the Nashville Fairgrounds. This year, organizers had hoped to fry a record number of over 2,000 birds. This is around 400 turkeys more than last year.

They also planned on donating over 1,500 frozen turkeys to needy families in Middle Tennessee. In total, the organization aimed to help over 36,000 families this year. But because of some unforeseen trouble, those expectations may have to change drastically.

What Happened to the Turkeys?

Organizers of the Turkey Fry say that 650 turkeys were ruined overnight because a refrigerator truck went out.

This is the first time in the event's 20 years that something like this has happened. Those birds could have fed plenty of hungry families in Nashville this holiday, so Lawrence and the folks at the Mission:Possible Turkey Fry are reaching out to the community for help.

The singer issued a call to action on social media:

"If you are in the area and able, please drop off a thawed or frozen turkey, or whole chicken behind the Nashville Expo Center. There will be volunteers with blue bins there to greet you."

If you are in Music City and are in a position to help, you can drop off a bird at 401 Wingrove Street, Nashville, TN 37203.

Tracy Lawrence Is Celebrating 20 Years of the Turkey Fry

Before the event, Lawrence shared how excited he was to feed families in Nashville this year.

"I cannot believe we are celebrating the 20th anniversary of the turkey fry," he said in a statement. "This event started with a few of my buddies in a church parking lot, cooking only 200 birds. Now our footprint has grown, and we're cooking 2,000+ turkeys and feeding so many throughout Middle Tennessee. Big things!"

Tonight, Lawrence headlines the Mission:Possible benefit concert at Category 10, Luke Combs' bar in downtown Nashville. He will be joined by Gretchen Wilson, Eric Paslay, Chris Cagle, Halfway to Hazard, and Addison Rose. Last year, the benefit raised $250,000.
