‘Reba’ Alum Steve Howey Talks Reuniting With Reba McEntire On ‘Happy’s Place’

Reba McEntire seems like a pretty cool person overall. Despite her fabulous wealth and immense singing and acting talent, the Queen of Country appears very down-to-earth and unpretentious. Actor Steve Howey, 47, played Van Montgomery on Reba's original self-titled sitcom, which aired from 2001 to 2007. He enjoyed working with her and is now reunited as a guest star with her and fellow Reba alum Melissa Peterman on Reba's new show, Happy's Place, per Pop Culture. Howey's so glad about it that he is speaking out.

Steve Howey Is Danny On 'Happy's Place'

Danny Is A Buddy Of Melissa Peterman's Character, Gabby

Howey explained to TV Insider via Pop Culture how the part of Danny evolved and how he felt about accepting it. It sounds as if the actor was really elated to be on Reba's new show.

He said, "Kevin Abbott, the showrunner for Reba, who's now doing Happy's Place, reached out to me and said, 'I have this idea for this character and want to know if you want to come play with us.' And I was like, 'Are you kidding? Absolutely.' It just made sense. It wasn't anything that made me feel uncomfortable or weird, and it wasn't Van [my character from Reba]."

He Jumped At The Chance To Work With Them Again

Howey added, "I liked that. This was an opportunity to reacquaint with some people that I adore that I grew up with, Reba McEntire and Melissa Peterman. I've always said that Reba has the Midas touch. [She's] an amazing person and a mentor for me. So [when] Kevin asked me to come on, I was like, 'Dude, are you kidding? Tell me when.'"

Howey Appreciates How Receptive McEntire Is To His Suggestions

He told Us Weekly via Pop Culture that "I can pitch something, and she's like, 'I'll try it.'" And of course, there was some chummy banter between the two of them when Howey made his first appearance on Happy's Place.

Howey said, "The line that I did give was the first time I walked in when Reba was drawing on Melissa's picture, and she made a mustache. I say, 'Hey, nice mustache.' She turns around and says, 'Wish I could say the same about yours.' But that was my line to Reba — and that's how cool Reba is."
