Few classic rock bands have reached the lofty heights of superstardom quite like Aerosmith. The legendary group, which formed in Boston in the '70s, officially played their last concert in August of last year. The band has always had stylish flare, but Steve Tyler's daughter, Mia Tyler, recently revealed that the scarves the frontman put on his mic weren't always just for show.

During the Sibling Revelry podcast on Monday, April 14, Mia revealed some insight into the unique accessories adorning her dad's microphones. Mia explained, "The story of why he has scarves on his microphone is because he liked to hide his pills." She later added, "He would have little pockets sewn in so he could be on stage and just take whatever it was that he was ingesting." Mia also admitted that her father was "extremely wild" when she was growing up.
Like several stars who embodied the sex, drugs, and rock n' roll lifestyle, Steve Tyler has publically struggled with substances in recent years. Per People, the Dream On singer relapsed in 2022, prompting Aerosmith to put their Las Vegas residency on hold that year. The band reportedly posted on Instagram, "After foot surgery to prepare for the stage and the necessity of pain management during the process, he has recently relapsed and voluntarily entered a treatment program to concentrate on his health and recovery."
Aerosmith Retired From Touring Last Year
In August 2024, Aerosmith officially retired from the spotlight. Steve injured his voice earlier in the year, and the diagnosis was more serious than previously thought. His doctor confirmed that the singer had a fractured larynx along with damaged vocal cords.
Unfortunately, those woes continued into August, prompting the legendary rock group to cease touring. "We've always wanted to blow your mind when performing. As you know, Steven's voice is an instrument like no other," the band said. "Sadly, it is clear, that a full recovery from his vocal injury is not possible. We have made a heartbreaking and difficult, but necessary, decision to retire from the touring stage."
While fans were devastated, it's hard not to be in awe of everything Aerosmith accomplished over 50+ years of touring. The band released 15 studio albums and even has their own roller coaster!
