This Tennessee Democratic Candidate Couldn’t Dare “Hate Country Music”— She Was Conceived After a George Strait Concert, After All

Aftyn Behn's congressional campaign for the 7th District of Tennessee was recently rocked when her former comments appeared online

Aftyn Behn is running damage control. The Democratic congressional candidate running for the 7th District of Tennessee has been making headlines, but that's not a good thing in this case. If there's one thing you don't want to do on the campaign trail, it's insult a major point of pride for your constituents.

Unfortunately, that's exactly what's happened with Behn, as her comments from an old podcast recently surfaced, where she announced that she hated Nashville and Country Music. As you would imagine, that's led Behn to get straight on the charm offensive.

Behn's latest effort occurred during an interview on the "Breaking Points with Krystal and Saagar" podcast. The congressional candidate shared that she was conceived after a George Strait concert.

"I'm gonna say something I haven't said, and I think it's funny, I hope my parents don't kill me. I do not hate country music; I was conceived after a George Strait concert."

Unfortunately, being conceived after a concert doesn't mean musical taste is passed down via genetics. Sure, it's a nice feel-good story, but it's hard to envision that revelation having the damage-controlling effect that Behn likely hopes it does.

What Did Aftyn Behn Actually Say About Country Music?

Behn's comments were originally made on the "Year Old GRITS" podcast in 2020. During the podcast, she detailed the reasoning behind her hate for Nashville.

"I hate the city, I hate the bachelorettes, I hate the pedal taverns, I hate country music, I hate all of the things that make Nashville," Behn said. "I hate it."

Behn immediately tried to walk back the comments after they surfaced on social media.

"Today, the Republicans decided that they're going to start this narrative that I, the state representative who represents downtown Nashville, don't like the city," Behn wrote. "Sure, I get mad at the bachelorettes sometimes. I get mad at the pedal taverns, right? You're talking to somebody who has cried no less than 10 times in the Country Music Hall of Fame. The girl who just goes to the Ryman to hang out. No, no, we're not even gonna go there."

The election for the 7th District of Tennessee is scheduled for December 2, 2025. Behn is facing tough competition from GOP candidate Matt Van Epps.
