The incident happened at around 8 a.m. local time. The man is believed to be an aircraft engineer working on the ground at the time.
He reportedly suffered "multiple fractures" and was taken to hospital for treatment.
Airport Accident Leaves Worker With Serious Injuries
The incident involved a Jet2 aircraft, with the injured man understood to be a third-party contractor carrying out work on the plane.
Witnesses said he fell approximately 12 feet from the aircraft. This occurred after the rear stairs were removed, according to the Manchester Evening News.
The same report stated that the man sustained fractures to both his arm and leg in the fall.
Emergency services responded quickly, with multiple vehicles surrounding the aircraft shortly after the incident.
Medical screens were then put in place around the worker to maintain his privacy while paramedics treated him at the scene.
According to Metro.co.uk, he was later transported to a nearby hospital. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, but are considered serious.
Passengers due to board the flight were delayed as emergency crews dealt with the situation on the tarmac.
Investigation Launched as Jet2 Responds
The aircraft had been scheduled to depart from Manchester to Tenerife in the Canary Islands.
"We are aware of an incident that took place at Manchester Airport this morning (Saturday 11th April) involving an individual from a third-party provider," a Jet2 spokesperson said.
"We are unable to confirm further details at present, however, can confirm that a full investigation has been launched, we are doing our best to provide support to everyone who needs it."
The incident adds to what has been a turbulent period for the airline.
In February 2026, a Jet2 flight traveling from Antalya, Turkey to Manchester was forced to divert after a violent mid-air altercation broke out between two passengers.
Reports claim the incident involved racist remarks and a physical fight between two intoxicated men.
The flight diverted to Brussels, Belgium. Police then detained both individuals and filed assault reports.
Jet2 later banned the men for life and sought to recover costs linked to the diversion.
