Alec Baldwin Reveals What He Regrets Most From His Last Divorce

A divorce can sometimes seem inevitable. But when you have a family, it completely alters a kid's life. They oftentimes have no idea what's happening or why. Moreover, they can also internalize it and assume it's their fault depending on age. That's not to mention the headaches of custody and trying to be a good parent without sole custody. Alec Baldwin knows this feeling too well, currently struggling with the regrets of his divorce.

Recently, Alec spoke on a new episode of his reality show The Baldwins on TLC. There, he gets tremendously candid about his past relationship with ex-wife Kim Basinger and how it impacted their daughter Ireland. "I must say that because my relationship with my daughter Ireland was so negatively impacted by my divorce from her mother and having a very protracted custody battle that the media really were having a party about everything," Baldwin explains. "[It] went on for seven years, of which the financials were probably a year and a half and then everything else was custody."

Nowadays, Alec is just grateful to have a good relationship with Ireland to make up for lost time. Moreover, he looks at his relationship with his daughter Carmen as the ability to make up for past failures. "[Ireland] loves the kids. I mean, she's very sweet to them, and she's their older sister, but she's not in that pack," Baldwin admits. "This is why I think I'm so focused on [oldest daughter] Carmen and I want to have a good relationship with Carmen, because I have a girl all over again."

As for Basinger, she has nothing negative to say about Alec all these years later. In an interview with Variety, the actress explains that they may not be super close but there's no ill will. ""We don't spend Christmases and holidays or see each other very much. But we talk," she says of Baldwin. "He'll pick up the phone and call me, and we have a very genuinely cordial and, I think, loving relationship in a lot of ways, just because we share a daughter and I don't wish him anything but everything good."
