Los Angeles Dodgers relief pitcher Alex Vesia and his wife Kayla have shared some heartbreaking news with the public. Their infant daughter Sterling passed away on Sunday, October 26. He was not able to be present for the recently-concluded World Series versus the Toronto Blue Jays, per AP.

The Vesias Shared the Sorrowful News on Social Media
Word came of Sterling's passing in a post from Vesia on Instagram. He and his wife wrote, "Our little angel we love you forever & you're with us always. Our beautiful daughter went to heaven Sunday October 26th. There are no words to describe the pain we're going through but we hold her in our hearts and cherish every second we had with her."
The post continued, "Thank you to the Dodgers for their understanding and support during this time. Our baseball family showed up for us and we wouldn't be able to do this without them. Thank you Dodger Nation, Blue Jays organization and all baseball fans for your love and support. We have seen ALL your messages, comments and posts. It's brought us so much comfort. Lastly, we'd like to thank Cedars Sinai and all the medical staff who helped Kayla and Sterling. Every person we came across was truly so incredible.

The Dodgers Said Vesia Was Out Due to a "Deeply Personal Family Matter"
Three days prior to Sterling's death, the Dodgers said that the reliever would not be in Toronto for Game 1 of the Series on October 24, per the outlet. Both teams respectfully honored him during the traumatic time. According to the AP, "Dodgers relievers wore Vesia's No. 51 on their caps in a tribute to their absent teammate. Blue Jays relievers joined them in the tribute for Game 6."

Many fans compassionately reached out to the Vesias on Instagram to show solidarity with them. There were lots of praying hands and heart emojis.
