Oftentimes one could think that a specific iconic song has only one definite way of being played. Then someone comes around and turns the song upside down. If you told me years ago that "Time" by Pink Floyd would sound not only good but oddly natural as a country music song, then I would have told you that you should probably get some sleep. Turns out, Bryson Quick, an American Idol contestant, just proved me wrong. Moreover, he even was invited to perform at the Grand Ole Opry thanks to it.

Performing Pink Floyd in American Idol is surely not quite the most safe choice for a contestant to pick. Especially during their audition. Bryson Quick, however, picked a song by the iconic English rock band. And while the general audience would be more familiar with songs such as "Another Brick in the Wall Pt. 2," "Comfortably Numb," or even the safest choice of them all, "Wish You Were Here," Quick chose "Time" instead.
The judges, Luke Bryan, Carrie Underwood, and Lionel Richie, were arguably shocked after hearing Bryson Quick had chosen a Floyd song as his audition song. And when he started playing "Time," oddly, at least in my opinion, the melody sung by David Gilmour transformed into a line that could have easily been written in Nashville, Tennesse. Yes, Quick chose to not perform the instrumental introduction and didn't bring synchronized clocks to help set up the mood, but man can the high schooler sing.
Judges React, Quick Performs
The judges, in turn, were equally impressed by his country music interpretation of the rock classic.
"I like the fact that you brought yourself into a Pink Floyd song. That was a smart call," Underwood told Quick, as reported by Country Rebel. "And you're pretty darn cute! It's not everything, but it helps!" Lionel Richie told Quick that he had "the storyteller kinda voice."
"At first I thought we'd never heard this before [because] you don't fit into that genre of that country voice, but the uniqueness is the part that rings the bell," Richie added.
Luke Bryan, equally impressed, decided to change Quick's life forever. While he hasn't won American Idol just yet, Bryan convinced American Idol winner Chayce Beckham to have Bryson Quick join him at the Grand Ole Opry. The pair performed 23, a song released by Beckham as part of his debut album, Bad for Me. Let's just say that Pink Floyd, while no longer active, keeps on changing lives with their music.
Originally written by David Gilmour, Roger Waters, Richard Wright, and Nick Mason, with lyrics written by Waters, "Time" was included in the legendary Dark Side of the Moon. Released in 1973, the record was a commercial success and was critically acclaimed. It is now regarded as one of the best albums of all time. It helped solidify Pink Floyd as one of the most influential rock bands of the 20th century.
