Well, season 23 is officially wrapped. And honestly, the fans seem incredibly unhappy about it. especially when it came to the winner's announcement. Now I only tune in from time to time, so I won't pretend to know everything about the show. But the people who do tune in week in and week out could not be more upset. Here's just a taste of what I'm seeing:
'American Idol' Fans Are Angry About How It Handled Its Season 23 Winner
Yeah, so not the most happy. especially with the added video. I've never been more scared of a baseball bat in my life.
The Final Episode
Ok, so again, bear with me, I'm not an expert here. But I'll explain this as best as I can.
The most recent season of American Idol ended on the evening of Sunday, May 18th. (As of this post, that would make it last night.) And my goodness, did the fans love it.
The three finalists this year were Jamal Roberts, John Foster, and Breanna Nix. All three of which were absolutely fantastic candidates for winners.
Jamal Roberts sang for the final, "First Time" by Teeks. It was a beautiful rendition of an awesome song, and the judges had nothing but compliments to pile on the 27-year-old Mississippian. Lionel even went so far as to tell the young man, "What I love about you is the way you just navigate the story, and it happens to come out of your mouth in brilliant form." And I'll be honest, not a crazy take. This man's voice is straight-up silky.
John Foster was an even younger gentleman at the age of 18. He sang the phenomenal song, "Courtesy Of The Red, White and Blue (The Angry American)" by Toby Keith. Yes, I know, banger. And let me just say, John did not disappoint. Carrie Underwood would say about the performance, "You're pulling out all the stops."
And last but certainly not least was Breanna Nix. She crushed her rendition of "In Jesus Name (God of Possible)" by Katy Nichole. She's a 25-year-old from Texas, and she could not have a more impressive voice. She got Luke to admit, "You've just been amazingly solid all year, you deliver week in and week out. You have such a special heart and thing about you."
Unsatisfying Ending For The Fans
So yeah, all three of these contestants deserved the win, sadly only one could. And Jamal Roberts was the lucky contestant. Unfortunately, fans were not happy with the lack of screentime given once the winner was announced.
Apparently announcement was rushed, and one fan even posted this on X:
