American Idol music supervisor Robin Kaye and her husband, Thomas Deluca, both 70, were found dead in their multi-million dollar Encino, California, mansion on July 14 when a welfare check was made, The couple was apparently murdered. They reportedly came home to find someone robbing them. That individual, Raymond Boodarian, 22, gained access via an unlocked door. It was thought to be a random burglary. Boodarian also lives in Encino. He faces two charges of murder and one of residential burglary.
Per the outlet, according to court documents, July 10 was also the day that police went to the home to check on "reports of a burglary." It was not until July 14 that Kaye's and Deluca's bodies were found, however. They were pronounced deceased at that time. "Multiple gunshot wounds to the head" were noted on both of them.
The Los Angeles Country District Attorney Reacted To The Crime
Nathan Hochman said in a statement via the outlet, "In a matter of moments, this couple was senselessly killed in their own home as they returned from the grocery store. Our thoughts and prayers go out to their family and friends who are grieving this tremendous loss."
There has been no announcement yet as to whether the death penalty will be sought for Boodarian.
The Suspect Reportedly Has a Criminal Background
According to People, court records indicate that Booderian has in the past been charged with "battery, exhibiting a deadly weapon and threatening to commit a crime with the intent to terrorize." The charges were dropped due to "mental competency and conservatorship."
A Private Security Guard Claims That Robin Kaye Was Interested In Security Measures Before The Crime
That guard, Kris Herzog, reportedly represents many celebrity clients. He says Kaye contacted him this year about security. He advised her that alarms and cameras are not sufficient protection. Herzog says he suggested that she invest in a pepper ball gun or bear spray. He claims she did not contact him after that.
Herzog Is Critical Of The Police Response Four Days Before The Bodies Of Kaye And Deluca Were Found
Herzog said per the outlet, "They respond to a burglary, burglar in the house, he's jumped the wall. The witness, a renter from the neighbor, believes he went in the house. So they responded, circled the house, called out the airship. Airship circle said we see no signs of forced entry — and they f—g left. They're out of there in 10."
An officer claimed that a police helicopter did not notice anything amiss and there was no response from within the couple's home.
