'American Idol' Standout Mattie Pruitt Delivers Devastating Performance Of “Remember Me"

At only 16 years old, the pressures of a show like American Idol should really be getting to Mattie Pruitt. But, despite the spotlight shining bright on the child, she continues to impress the audience and the judges.

Until last week, the Tennessee native was cruising through the competition. Mattie Pruitt had hardly a worry in the world until she was pitted against Josh King as the bottom two of last week's American Idol. It's easy to become complacent, and this was exactly the wake-up call she needed.

So, this round, during Disney week, she pulled out all the stops and proved to herself and the judges that she belonged on the show. She didn't disappoint either. She needed to show they had made a good decision by keeping her in the competition.

It turns out there were no problems for Pruitt.

Mattie Pruitt Dominates With Disney

There is a fair amount of choice when it comes to singing a Disney song. There are the uptempo, crowd-rousing ones, or the meaningful, somber ones. And then you have what Mattie Pruitt chose to sing for this round of American Idol.

The song 'Remember Me' from CoCo is the type of heartstring puller that the American Idol audience loves. Nothing gets the crowds going more than a good weep. So, this was the perfect choice. It wasn't particularly vocally challenging, and it's not a long song, but it's a tearful one, and that was enough.

16-year-old Mattie Pruitt got a few nose blows and eye dabs throughout her performance, and cruised through to the next round. After her rocky last show, she reassured everyone that she deserved to be there.

Before the night's show, she posted to social media. She knew she needed to step things up if she didn't want to be in the bottom two again. "Disney songs are coming and I'm still HERE and so thankful for the outpouring of supporters!" she said to her fans. "Getting saved by the judges was a moment I'll never forget — and I'm so ready to prove why I deserve this spot in the Top 7."
