American YouTuber Detained and Charged After Leaving Diet Coke to Isolated Tribe

The YouTuber faces some pretty serious charges. This comes after he attempted to contact and offer a Diet Coke to the isolated tribe last year.

An American YouTuber and self-described "danger tourist" has finally been charged after a reckless stunt. Mykhailo Viktorovych Polyakov was originally arrested in 2025 after leaving a Diet Coke to an isolated tribe as an offering. And, as reported by the Daily Mail, he has now been detained and charged with some pretty serious crimes.

We reported on this incident back when it happened in April of last year. The YouTuber approached North Sentinel island, which is known for its presence of a hostile tribe which are in voluntary isolation. Previous encounters with the tribe throughout history have lead to the deaths of those involved.

However, Polyakov decided to ignore all of this. The YouTuber set foot on the shores of North Sentinel island in order to leave a pretty strange, yet distinctly American, peace offering. A Diet Coke. The worst part about all this? The YouTuber did it all for content - he was recording the entire thing on his GoPro.

Visitors are expectedly banned from visiting the island. This is due to two things. Firstly, the tribe has made it pretty clear they don't want to be contacted - they've even pelted arrows at humanitarian boats and helicopters. And second, the fact they're isolated means they are pretty prone to modern diseases that are all but unknown in modern society.

The YouTuber Has Been Charged With Some Pretty Serious Crimes

But now, Polyakov has been detained and subsequently charged for some pretty serious crimes. He was originally spotted by fishermen on his return from North Sentinel island, and arrested at the time.

But now, he's been charged with entering a prohibited tribal reserve area, as well as with the specific Indian laws against outsiders interacting with the islanders. If he's found guilty, he can face up to five years in prison

The YouTuber even tried to ask for bail this week, but the Port Blair courts refused this. They even subsequently increased his judicial custody time. He is next scheduled to appear in court on April 29.

We hope that the justice system plays out, and that if he is found guilty, he is punished accordingly.
