I think we can all agree that 2024 had its ups and its downs. There were definitely some moments throughout the year I would have changed. However, even with that understanding I don't think people were expecting the absolute roast that the stand-up comedian delivered.
Whitney Cummings's roast focused mainly on the failed presidential candidate Kamala Harris and President Joe Biden. However she also threw in some quips about vaccinations as well. Besides shocking people with her blunt words, it is particularly surprising given the platform on which she delivered it.
The comedian made her appearance on CNN New Year's Eve Live special. CNN is a mainstream media outlet that has often been accused of having a partisan bias towards the Democratic Party. According to Pew Research, 67% of the Democratic Party trust CNN and think of it as a reliable source of information. So, to go on a supposed left-leaning channel and roast the Democratic Party is definitely a bold choice.
Whitney Cummings's fiery roast starts off with, " The 2024 election fried our brains." She continued, "The Democrats couldn't hold a primary because they were too busy holding a body upright." After her sentence, Andy Cohen's mouth open in surprise. The silence that immediately followed Cummings's comment was loud.
She looked at Cohen to confirm that the cameras were indeed still rolling. I am assuming she guessed the cameras would cut off after her roast. "Are we still rolling? Am I off?" she questioned Cohen. To which he replied, "Go for it," with a chuckle. Meanwhile, Anderson Cooper, a CNN anchor, remained completely silent.
Whitney Cummings's roast continued. "It was amazing that the pro-choice party didn't give their voters one when it came to the presidential candidate." At this point, Andy Cohen can be seen smiling, whether nervously or because he is enjoying the commentary it is uncertain. Cummings held nothing back as she continued.
"Kamala was forced on us so hard you'd think she was patented by Pfizer, or Moderna, whichever one is..." then she looked to her left at Cohen. "Oh God," she stammered "Andy just gave me a very scary look." Cohen yells, "No!" as he laughs off the accusation. Meanwhile, during the entire commentary, Anderson Cooper remained silent.
Viewers can see a slight smile ghosting his lips, however it is difficult to discern. Did he find the commentary humorous, or was it a tight-lipped smile suppressing his anger?
