Her children described the singer, aged 63, as "an example for black women and girls everywhere." They also said she "loved and championed for black men with her Number One Hit entitled 'Brotha.'"

Both Diamond and Michael thanked everyone who reached out to the family. Now that the dust has settled, they have requested privacy as they grieve this terrible loss.

Described as a "pioneer of rap music," Angie passed away after a car crash following a performance in Montgomery, Alabama. From there, she was on her way to the CIAA basketball tournament in Baltimore when the collision occurred.

A spokeswoman in a statement told CNN that "Angie Stone's voice and spirit will live on forever in the hearts of those she touched." Montgomery's Mayor Steven L. Reed also released a statement after the accident. "Montgomery joins the music world in mourning the loss of Angie Stone," he said. Reed called her "a trailblazer whose voice and artistry shaped generations."

Angie was native to Columbia, South Carolina, and her career spanned four decades in the entertainment industry. She started in the late 70s as a member of The Sequence, a trio of female rap artists. Later on, Angie moved toward R&B music and became a solo artist.

She also received a gold certification from the Recording Industry Association of America after releasing her debut solo album Black Diamond in 1999. You may remember some of her hit singles being Wish I Didn't Miss You and No More Rain (In This Cloud).

If you're connecting the dots, you'll realize that she named Black Diamond after her daughter, who was a teenager at the time. She also had her son Michael in 1998 with neo soul singer D'Angelo.

By the end of the statement from Angie's children, they revealed that they are planning the funeral services. The children hope that "Angie's fans can honor her life, music and legacy" through whatever these services will be.
