Anjelica Huston Recalls Ex Jack Nicholson Offering Her a Place to Stay During L.A. Wildfires

Some old flames will always burn bright. It may not always work out like originally imagined. But if you truly claim to love and care about someone, you'll always save a soft spot for them. So even when Anjelica Huston and Jack Nicholson spent years on and off dating, there's seemingly no bad blood today. It's to the point where Nicholson still opens up his home to her in a time of crisis.

Recently, the One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest actress spoke to PEOPLE and reflected on the terrifying Los Angeles wildfires. There, she reveals that her former costar and ex Jack Nicholson reached out amidst all the devastating wreckage. Huston was forced to evacuate her huge ranch in the Sierra Nevada mountain range at the time. Consequently, her old flame popped up.

"The phone just rang out of nowhere, and it was him," she recalls. "It's always a comfort when he calls... It was heartbreakingly sweet. I've gone back over it ­several times in my head, and I think next time I'd accept the invitation."

Anjelica Huston Talks About Her On and Off Relationship with Jack Nicholson

Jack and Anjelica were together on and off from 1973 to 1990. They eventually call it quits when the former fathers a child outside of their own relationship. Still, despite all the problems in their romance, she still treasures their relationship. She describes it as a fundamental fixture in her life and appreciates that the bond has lasted across 50 years. Moreover, Huston holds a bit of regret not seeing him more often.

"Life gets in the way," she explains. "Also, for some reason, they've been doing endless rerouting and road work near his house, so it takes hours to get to him, and that's always irritating. I always managed to be late going to see him, which is very irritating for him."
