Award-Winning Beauty Brand Is The Latest To File Bankruptcy

SBLA Beauty, a popular cosmetics company, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on March 11. The Street reports the Florida-based skincare brand submitted the filing in U.S. Bankruptcy Court to reorganize its operations and tackle its debt. The company listed assets between $500,000 and $1 million. Its liabilities range from $1 million to $10 million.

MSN notes SBLA Beauty gained fame for non-invasive anti-aging products. These include the Eye Lift Wand and the Neck, Chin & Jawline Sculpting Wand. Supermodel Christie Brinkley promotes the brand, which sells its items online.

CEO Randi Shinder launched SBLA Beauty in 2018. She aimed to offer a skin-tightening alternative to cosmetic procedures. Shinder calls it a blend of "science meets beauty." Before SBLA, she created LipFusion lip plumper and other Fusion Beauty products. She sold that brand in 2009.

"At SBLA, we deliver products rooted in science and technology," Shinder says on the company's website. "They make a real difference in women's and men's daily lives from home."

SBLA Beauty to Reorganize?

SBLA Beauty did not reveal the reasons behind its financial woes. The company also stayed silent on whether the reorganization will affect product availability.

Other beauty brands have hit rough patches recently. Avon Products filed for Chapter 11 in 2024. The Street reports Avon faced $1 billion in debt and lawsuits over talc products. The company struck a deal with parent company Natura & Co. in December to sell its non-U.S. operations. Revlon, another major name, sought bankruptcy protection in 2022. It emerged in May 2023 after slashing $2.7 billion in debt. Revlon handed control to its prepetition lenders during the process.

SBLA Beauty's filing marks another challenge for the beauty industry. Analysts watch closely as brands navigate debt and shifting consumer trends. Shinder's vision of science-driven skincare now faces a critical test. The company hopes restructuring will steady its footing. Customers await word on how this move impacts their favorite wands and creams.
