Barry Williams, famed for playing Greg Brady on The Brady Bunch, opened up about his "on-again, off-again" romance with co-star Maureen McCormick on Tuesday's re-run of The Real Brady Bros podcast. Alongside co-host Christopher Knight, Williams revisited their time filming the 1973 episode "The Subject Was Noses," shedding light on their off-screen chemistry.

In that episode, Knight's character, Peter, accidentally breaks Marcia's nose with a football, derailing her date with a jock. During the podcast, Knight, now 67, recalled noticing sparks between Williams, 70, and McCormick, 68. "It looked like she was dating someone very close to her on set," Knight said to Williams. "I could see it in the relationship between you two during that episode."
Knight pressed further, noting their dynamic seemed less sibling-like. "You were looking a little bit close, more like..." he trailed off. "You mean dreamy-eyed?" Williams jumped in. Knight agreed, describing Williams as "longing kind of wide-eyed" and McCormick as "dreamy." He added, "You guys were having a good week, I'd say." Williams didn't deny it. "It was sort of on-again, off-again with Maureen and me through the years," he explained. "There was always a little dance, interrupted by hiatuses."
Romance Beyond the Script
Williams shared more insight into their dynamic. For instance, he admitted to showing up on set whenever McCormick filmed romantic scenes with others. "At all times. Always," he said. "Just to have a presence." Meanwhile, he stayed out of her way during those moments, letting her focus until an episode brought them together again. "When she had to be affectionate with other guys, I'd step back and let her do her job," he noted.
Their connection wasn't new information. Back in 2013, Williams confirmed on The Oprah Winfrey Network that he and McCormick dated. "The second most-asked question I get is: Did Maureen and I date? Yes, we did. Definitely," he said. He even claimed bragging rights. "I was her first kiss," Williams revealed, recalling a moonlit moment in Hawaii during filming. "We snuck away. I knew where that was headed -- I set it up."
McCormick corroborated the story in her 2008 memoir, Here's the Story: Surviving Marcia Brady and Finding My Voice. "As soon as I stepped off the plane in Hawaii, I started thinking about him more intensely," she wrote. "We'd spent years staving off a mutual attraction despite working so closely every day."
A Legacy of Chemistry
The Brady Bunch ran on ABC from 1969 to 1974, starring Williams and McCormick as step-siblings Greg and Marcia alongside Robert Reed, Florence Henderson, and others. Last year, Williams told Us Weekly the cast "all hooked up with each other at some point." He even admitted to a "teenage crush" on Henderson, his on-screen mom.
Now, decades later, Williams and Knight's podcast chat offers fans a nostalgic peek behind the scenes. Clearly, the Greg-Marcia spark wasn't just for the cameras -- it was a real, if fleeting, romance that shaped their Brady years.
