According to an anonymous passerby, the drama began after Cumberbatch's cargo bike was allegedly seen "running a red light" in the cycle lane.
The second cyclist reportedly confronted the actor moments later, saying: "I know you were going to do that."
Video from the scene then appeared to show the Sherlock and Doctor Strange star striding over toward a man wearing red trousers as the disagreement escalated.
The masked cyclist could be heard calling Cumberbatch "deluded" while repeatedly shouting "you're lying."
The confrontation took place near St. Pancras International Station. Cumberbatch fired back by accusing the cyclist of "verbally abusing" him.
"Oh no, I verbally abused the guy who completely repeatedly broke the law," the cyclist replied.
Cumberbatch later admitted that he "did it once," though he denied further accusations during the exchange.
