New Music Friday is tomorrow, so let's go over all the best country releases from the past week to make sure you haven't missed anything.
Videos by Wide Open Country
We have been spoiled this past week by the smaller artists. Yes, Kelsea Ballerini released a coupl ofe new tracks, and Jelly Roll and Struggle Jennings collaborated for a new single, but they don't hold a candle to the top 5 that I've picked from the past week.
So grab a cold one; you're gonna need it for the heat the top pick brings.
Don't forget to check out our Spotify playlist that contains all the tracks from this list.
1. Watch Me Burn
"Watch Me Burn" by Joey Myron and Lucky Dog is an absolute banger.
I've been listening to it non-stop. This almost hypnotic track has my shoulders bopping and feet tapping the entire way through. "Watch Me Burn" may be my favorite country track of all time, and there's some tough competition.
From start to finish, the song warps what country is all about, and I love it.
2. Johnny
"Johnny" by Rob Williford tells a sorrowful and powerful story.
A 'talking country' tune, Williford's incredible vocals take you on a journey about secret sins and intense reveals. It's a beautiful song that keeps building and building, painting vivid pictures along the way.
Strap in tight for this one. Close your eyes, and enjoy.
3. Foxes in the Snow
"Foxes in the Snow" by Jason Isbell is a sly ditty that I did not think I'd enjoy so much.
The almost sinister pacing of the tune makes me feel like a fox myself, stalking this man's lover with every foot tap. It's simple, stripped-back, and mysterious.
I don't have too many words to say. Listen to the song yourself, and you'll know what I mean. The song tell you everything you need to know.
4. Truck Stop
"Truck Stop" by Ryan and Rory is a classic pop country hit that's hard not to enjoy.
Depending on your level of 'country pop fatigue,' you'll either love "Truck Stop" or hate it. Although the beat and vibe are familiar, it's fun enough to forgive. Sometimes, a little genre hardlining isn't too bad. It's fun, and has a good music video to boot.
I personally like the song, and it's my list, so feel free to email me an apology if you disagree with it.
5. Wrong Post
"Wrong Post" by Ashley Ryan is a heartbreak bop about exposing an ex's new lover. Where have I heard this one before?
The tune is harmless and makes great company to any country playlist out there. It's laid-back while being just exciting enough to go shoulder-to-shoulder with other country tunes. I also found "Wrong Post" to be pretty funny.
Honorable Mention - The Bed Of Roses Album
I thought I'd throw a quick shout-out to Caylee Hammock for releasing her incredible Bed Of Roses album. Unfortunately, my favorite songs on the album were released as singles earlier, so they don't count. But the album is new, so I think that's justification enough.
Go check it out, it's awesome.
That's it for this week! Enjoy New Music Friday Tomorrow, and come back next week to get the lay-down of the best new country tunes.
