Billy Joel Postpones Tour After Undergoing Surgery, Focused On His Health

Billy Joel dropped a bombshell Tuesday. He's pushing back four months of his Billy Joel in Concert tour shows over "a medical condition."

His Instagram spilled the details. "The current tour pauses for four months so he can heal from recent surgery and tackle physical therapy with his doctors," the post read. It promised Joel, 75, "will bounce back fully" and kick things off again at Pittsburgh's Acrisure Stadium on July 5, 2025. Fans can hang onto their tickets -- they'll work for the new dates.

Joel chimed in himself. "I hate delaying shows, but my health's gotta come first," he wrote. "I can't wait to hit the stage again and share live music with you all. Thanks for sticking with me."

Here's the reshuffled lineup: He plays Detroit's Ford Field with Stevie Nicks on Nov. 15, 2025. Then Toronto's Rogers Centre on March 14, 2026. Next, he teams with Sting at Syracuse's JMA Wireless Dome on April 10, 2026, and Salt Lake City's Rice Eccles Stadium on May 22, 2026. June brings Edinburgh's Scottish Gas Murrayfield Stadium on the 6th and Liverpool's Anfield Stadium on the 20th. He joins Sting again in Charlotte at Bank of America Stadium on July 3, 2026. Milwaukee's American Family Field with Sting is still TBD.

Joel Bouncing Back

Last month, Joel took a tumble onstage at Mohegan Sun in Connecticut. A fan's video caught him losing balance mid-"It's Still Rock and Roll to Me." He hit the deck, rolled onto his back, twirled his mic, and flung it toward the crowd. He hopped up and powered through another song.

Health hiccups aren't new. In January, he nixed a Hollywood, Florida, gig for a "medical procedure." He bumped it to Nov. 1. Back in 2021, he told Howard Stern he shed 50 pounds after back surgery.

"The pain killed my appetite," Joel said. "I leaned into it -- ate less and less. Life's stress didn't help either."

Nonetheless, Joel's 2025 stadium tour still shines. He'll make music history as the first to play all three New York-area stadiums in one summer: Yankee Stadium with Rod Stewart on July 18, MetLife with Stevie Nicks on Aug. 8, and Citi Field with Sting on Aug. 21. Those gigs dodged the postponement.

He told Billboard last month, "I'm pumped for these stadiums -- they mean something special to me. New York crowds bring unmatched energy. Playing with Rod, Sting, and Stevie? That's a treat."

Joel hit the road again after wrapping his 10-year, 104-show Madison Square Garden residency in July 2024, selling 1.9 million tickets.
