Alexa Ray Joel, daughter of music icon Billy Joel, posted an emotional tribute on Instagram over the weekend after her father's diagnosis with normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH). The "Piano Man" singer canceled all upcoming concerts due to the condition, which affects his hearing, vision, and balance. Alexa praised her father's resilience and thanked fans for their overwhelming support.

"We love you and we got you, Pop," Alexa wrote, alongside a black-and-white painting of a young girl holding hands with a figure resembling Joel. "My Dad is the strongest and most resilient man I've ever known. He's committed to a full recovery with ongoing physical therapy."
A Challenging Health Battle
Joel, 76, revealed his NPH diagnosis last week, explaining it forced him to halt his tour. NPH occurs when cerebrospinal fluid builds up in the skull, pressing on the brain, per the Cleveland Clinic. Common in people over 65, it can cause cognitive issues, mobility challenges, and other symptoms. Treatment includes surgery, and recovery is sometimes possible.
The singer's team noted that recent performances worsened his condition. "This has been exacerbated by concert performances, leading to problems with hearing, vision, and balance," a statement on Joel's Instagram read.
Doctors advised him to stop performing during recovery. All shows through July 3, 2026, are canceled, including high-profile concerts with Rod Stewart at Yankee Stadium on July 18 and Sting at Citi Field on August 21.
"I'm sincerely sorry to disappoint our audience, and thank you for understanding," Joel wrote.
Outpouring of Support
Alexa expressed gratitude for fans' empathy. "The genuine care and concern from everyone means so much to him," she said. "It means a lot to me, too." She closed her post with lyrics from Joel's "Lullabye (Goodnight, My Angel)," a nod to their close bond.
The five-time Grammy winner, known for hits like "New York State of Mind" and "Uptown Girl," faces a tough road ahead. And without a doubt, as Joel focuses on recovery, his music and legacy continue to resonate.
