Billy Ray Cyrus is being sued. A woman from Arizona, named Jayme Lee, has begun legal proceedings after claiming that she's the biological mother of Miley Cyrus. The woman believes Billy Ray has broken the agreement that was made when Miley was born.
The agreement in question is that Lee agreed for Billy Ray to adopt a child (Miley) that Lee gave birth to on Nov. 23, 1992, and that Lee would have naming rights and the ability to visit the child moving forward. Of course, this agreement also implies that Billy Ray is not Miley's biological father.
The legal proceedings are expected to cover multiple infringements, including breach of contract, intentional infliction of emotional distress, fraud, and unlawful interference with parental rights. The lawsuit was reportedly filed in May of this year.
Lee must feel confident about her claims, as she reportedly requested that both Billy Ray and Miley undergo DNA testing. In another interesting turn of events, Lee has requested that Dolly Parton be added to the lawsuit. Parton is alleged to have played a role in Billy Ray adopting the child in question.
Jayme Lee Claims Billy Ray Wasn't the Only Celebrity Interested in Adopting Her Child
Billy Ray and Parton weren't the only celebrities named in the legal filings. According to Lee, at the time of her pregnancy, multiple celebrities showed an interest in adopting her child. Sharon Osbourne, Hillary Clinton, Neil Patrick Harris, and Julia Roberts are all noted as having approached Lee regarding a potential adoption.
Billy Ray Cyrus Has Filed To Have the Case Dismissed
Billy Ray doesn't appear to be taking the lawsuit lying down. The country star reportedly filed to have the case dismissed earlier this month. The motion was filed in Nashville. Even though Billy Ray is denying the woman's claims, his legal team has also noted that any lawsuit has already passed the statute of limitations.
Miley is 33 years old. As such, the courts have sided with Billy Ray and have dismissed the suit with prejudice. Therefore, the case cannot be raised again. Of course, that also means that legally, Billy Ray is still Miley's father.
Now that the court proceedings are over, and have no chance of coming back, perhaps Miley can get back to planning her wedding to longtime boyfriend Maxx Morando.
