There are themes in country music that crop up a lot. Some of them are heartbreak, drinking, family (think Mom and Dad), work, patriotism, and godly faith. Another category involves the weird, wacky. Stuff that is so far out that it makes us laugh and smile. It's good old country fun at its best. Some great artists like Johnny Cash have indulged in these musical hijinks. That proves that it's perfectly okay to be silly and rollicking once in a while. So let's get into the guffaws and look back at a few of the hilarious country songs that got radio play.

"Flushed From The Bathroom Of Your Heart" By Johnny Cash
I was going to write about another one of Cash's odd jaw-droppers, "Chicken in Black," but this one was even better. It's clever, humorous, cute - and gets the message across that the dumped narrator is just about fed up. And is at his or her lowest ebb. Many country songs about love gone astray are mournful and lachrymose. This one is a total, unabashed hoot. Cash performed it at Folsom State Prison in 1968. The audience there must have fallen over laughing.
"You Can't Roller Skate In A Buffalo Herd" By Roger Miller
Here's another way-out classic from the 1960s. When I read the title, I wasn't sure there was actually a real song to go with it. But there sure is! Leave it to Roger "King of the Road" Miller to come up with this funny track. He sings about all the impossible things you can't do, like take a shower in a parakeet cage and swim in a baseball glove. But you can "be happy if you've a mind to." An uplifting and sincere message encased in a lovably nutty song.
"All My Ex's Live In Texas" By George Strait
The widely-acknowledged King of Country has a great sense of humor. It comes delightfully to the fore in this song, which pokes fun of the narrator's former lady loves who are in the Lone Star State. A Grammy-nominated chart-topper, it was released in 1987 and was written by Lyndia J. Shafer and Sanger D. Shafer. The good-natured wittiness of the track reminds people of why they love Strait so much. He is so unpretentious and relatable. This song suited him perfectly. Per country living.com, "In his familiar twang, he sings, 'All my exes live in Texas / And Texas is the pace I'd dearly love to be / All my exes live in Texas / And that's why I hang my hat in Tennessee.'"
"I'm Gonna Miss Her (The Fishin' Song)" By Brad Paisley
This daffy song went to number 1 on the Hot Country Songs chart. Paisley makes the most of it. Per the outlet, "The singer's wife gives him an ultimatum and makes him choose between her and fishing." Guess which one won out? Paisley co-wrote it.
