Blake Shelton Disparages The Name Of New Album Further With Its Origin Story

Blake Shelton has gone off on one again about the name of his album as he explains how he came up with it. Well, more like how he bumped into it.

The "Texas" singer has already said how naming his albums is the least fun part of the process. His lament toward having to provide a name for his albums is visceral whenever he talks about the subject.

During his appearance on The Tonight Show, he told Jimmy Fallon that the name is "ridiculous." But it's a memorable title, which is ultimately the aim.

Recently, Blake Shelton visited the Country Heat Weekly podcast, where he reiterated these thoughts and provided more insight into how he came up with the title he despises so much.

"And finally, one day, my manager texts me and he goes, 'You need to give us a title for the album, because they're literally gonna start manufacturing these things,'" he recalls his manager saying.

At the time, Blake Shelton was watching TV, "and at some point, the phrase 'For Recreational Use Only' came into my head."

So there wasn't really a thought process at all for the song. It just came out of nowhere. When messaging his manager, however, he wanted to appear as though he'd put in real effort into the name.

"I kind of made it sound like I had been thinking about this for a while," he said. "'Man, I've been kicking this around, For Recreational Use Only,'" he told his manager.

Apparently, his manager responded with a brisk "'Love it!'"

Blake Shelton's Album Name Really Isn't That Bad

He kept doggin on the name of the record, "[The name] has nothing to do with the album, there's no song on there that's called 'For Recreational Use Only,' there's no line in any song."

"If you hear that title, you'll probably remember it," he added, echoing a previously shared thought.

In all honesty, For Recreational Use Only I think is a pretty clever name. Of course, no thought went into it to call it clever, but it's pretty apt. A personal pet peeve of mine is naming albums after a song on the album. I find it lazy and potentially confusing.

Having a proper name for the collection of songs is the way to go in my opinion, and For Recreational Use Only isn't bad as far as they go.
