Police officers are trained to deal with all kinds of situations. But some brave men in blue were more than a bit taken aback on November 4 when they were called to a rental property in Watertown, South Dakota. They were there to check out a report of an intruder in that home. Actually, there was one - a buck that somehow barged its way inside and was probably very eager to get back out again.

A bodycam video posted on the department's Facebook page shows the obviously messy scene. To their credit, the officers managed to get the frightened animal outside without harming it or themselves.
Startled Police Found a Buck in a Bedroom When They Arrived
The video shows some damage right off the bat. As the officers approach, they spot a broken window. Using a key obtained from a property manager, they enter the premises and peer slowly into some of the rooms.
They walk around cautiously, not knowing what or who they will find. One calls out, "Police Department!" Then one of them makes the shocking discovery. A nervous buck is thrashing around in a bedroom, most likely looking for a quick way out.
An officer goes outside and announces to his colleagues, "There's a deer in here! There's a deer!"
How to Safely Get the Stuck Buck Out
Now they face a tricky dilemma. The buck is desperately trying to escape the confines of the home. The officers are stumped for the moment. One says, "I dunno what to do. This is a first. I'm not getting in front of that thing."
The police decide to keep the front door wide open. It's directly across from the door to the bedroom where the buck is. Finally, while holding chairs in front of themselves maybe as makeshift shields or to help guide the buck on his way, it at last runs outside.
It sure did scoot out real fast. The officers must have breathed a big sigh of relief! Everyone was okay and the buck went on its way. Quite a wildlife encounter to tell everyone about, through.
