The memorable moment, which was captured on social media, took place at a stop on Rhett's Better In Boots Tour on July 10 at the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, NJ. Looking out into the audience, a bright yellow sign that read, "My mom is 87 years old, and this is her first country concert" caught the singer's attention.
It goes like this...
The "Make Me Wanna" singer then went into the audience to meet the fan. In the video, you can hear Rhett asking the woman, "I just want to hug you. Can I hug you?"
After receiving an embrace from Rhett, the lucky fan then gave the singer a peck on the cheek. Obviously, the crowd went wild. The woman's mom even got a round of high-fives from the audience.
Moments like this tend to go viral, and this one was no exception. Someone else who posted the video wrote, "Another reason why I love @Thomas Rhett ??? It was an 87 year old women's first country concert and he took a moment to come into the crowd to give her a hug! Such a memorable moment that she will never forget! Just look at the smile on her face, I can't stop watching it ???"
Rhett even responded with, "My girl."
The story doesn't end with the kiss
The daughter who held up the sign that led to the unforgettable moment with Rhett went on TikTok to tell the story behind it over several videos. It's the last video that made us cry a little. The daughter shared that the pair lost their father and husband in 2020. Five years later, the grief has never gone away.
"We have been struggling emotionally with the loss of him. Us being two girls living together on our own, it's a struggle," she said. "So if I can bring one moment of joy to someone in my family, especially my mom, I was going to do it, and I succeeded. So thank you again, Thomas Rhett. Love you. Love you, love you."
